The world’s leading vision rehabilitation organization, The Lighthouse Inc., retained Mitchell/Giurgola to design a new corporate headquarters in mid-town Manhattan. The work included a complete gut-renovation and substantial addition to their existing building. The new 15-story structure establishes a strong street presence and public image for the Institution, creating an open and light-filled two-story entry. An atrium lobby, with an original Sol LeWitt tactile mural, connects a 235-person theater/auditorium, multi-purpose space and cafeteria around the new entrance, making it a popular venue for conferences. The building also includes a vision center, a child development center and pre-school, music school, library, technology center for job training, and an institute for applied research.
