Powdermaker Hall Renovation

Mitchell/Giurgola developed a master plan for Queens College that provided a comprehensive vision for the future of the college. The first step in the implementation of this plan was the complete renovation of Powdermaker Hall, the largest classroom and faculty office structure on campus. The renovated building includes a new exterior skin, new infrastructure and mechanical systems, state of the art classrooms, computer labs, seminar rooms, laboratories, offices, and work spaces for thirteen academic departments. A significant challenge of the Project was to design a facade that would appropriately mediate the diverse architectural styles of the surrounding buildings and to set design guidelines for future construction.
