Ribbon Cutting of Janice Blanchard Campus

Mitchell Giurgola is thrilled to have participated in yesterday’s ribbon cutting for the new Janice Blanchard Campus, a new school campus on a five-acre site in the Travis section of Staten Island.

The MG-designed, 80,000 SF project contains two schools: PS/IS 26, an elementary school serving 570 Pre-K through 8th grade students and the Staten Island Rise Academy, a District 75 school for special need students. The building was designed to exceed the rigorous sustainability standards of the New York City School Construction Authority and includes fully vegetated roofs and extensive use of bioswales in the landscape that filter and store stormwater to minimize the impact on the City’s stormwater infrastructure. The high-performance envelope is entirely constructed of precast panels with integral insulation to ensure a contiguous thermal envelop with minimal thermal breaks. All windows include bird safe glass to protect the abundant wildlife in the area. We are very proud to have been a part of this meaningful project for the Travis community.
