Mitchell Giurgola designed the renovation of Foster Hall at the University of Buffalo, a building originally constructed in 1921 by McKim Med & White. The roughly 75,000 GSF building that was previously home to the Oral Biology Department was transformed into a new facility for the Graduate School of Education (GSE). The conversion from a laboratory to an office building required the complete replacement of existing MEP systems, the replacement of all exterior windows with historically accurate substitutions, and the rehabilitation of the exterior skin, structure and foundation. The completed project honors one of the University’s most cherished historic campus buildings and creates a state-of-the-art new home for the School of Education.
