Ribbon Cutting of Foster Hall, SUNY University at Buffalo

Last Friday we celebrated the ribbon cutting of Foster Hall on the Main Street campus of the University at Buffalo—a milestone moment for a building that has stood at the heart of the university since 1921. Originally designed by McKim, Mead & White as UB’s first purpose-built academic building, the 75,000 SF limestone-clad Beaux Arts landmark has been thoughtfully reimagined by Mitchell Giurgola as the new home for the Graduate School of Education. With SHPO approval, the renovation restores the historic limestone fa?ade, replaces windows and slate roofing in kind, and introduces high-performance, “net zero ready” mechanical systems to meet New York State standards. Inside, contemporary interventions leverage generous floor-to-floor heights and abundant daylight, anchored by a new flexible 120-seat assembly space designed for lectures and campus-wide events. We’re proud to help honor and revitalize one of UB’s most cherished historic buildings for the next generation of students and faculty.
