Mitchell Giurgola worked with Harlem Children’s Zone, Civic Builders, and L+M Development Partners to design the fit-out of Promise Academy II, a new K-5 school and administrative offices for the charter school network that serves 550 students. Located at the base of Sendero Verde, a large mixed-use affordable housing development in East Harlem on 112th Street between Madison and Park Avenues, the facility provides new classrooms, a cafeteria, gymnasium, music, art, and dance rooms, as well as administrative spaces. The project was multi-phased, with the bulk of the school opening for students in January 2023.

Bright colors and patterns derived from the HCZ brand were woven throughout the project to create a lively setting for students both in the classroom and in larger gathering spaces such as the cafeteria and gymnasium. The colorful palette for the school reinforces the HCZ brand generally, and more specifically, the Promise Academy identity.
